Stronger Together: What the World Cup Can Teach Us About the Power of Partnership
As the 2026 FIFA World Cup captures the attention of fans across the country, the excitement around the world’s game continues to grow. People are looking forward to watching the best players compete on the biggest stage in sports. What many people may not realize is that some of the most important work happening in soccer today is taking place off the field.
Soccer programs around the world have embraced the development of the whole athlete for many decades, recognizing that success extends beyond physical skills and performance. Many organizations have gone a step further by embedding mental health resources, wellness programs, and athlete support services directly into their own structures or through strategic partnerships with trusted providers.
These partnerships recognize a simple but powerful truth: helping young people thrive requires more than developing athletic skills. It requires supporting the whole person.
That is why we at
Peak Performance and Counseling Services are grateful to be part of the Tonka United family of partnerships.
Shared Values and a Common Vision
At Peak Performance and Counseling Services, we believe athletic success starts long before game day.
Through our work with athletes, families, coaches, and teams, we have seen firsthand that the most meaningful growth happens when young people are supported both on and off the field. Athletic development is important, but so is building confidence, resilience, self-awareness, and the ability to navigate challenges that come with sports and life.
Young athletes today face pressures that extend far beyond competition. They are balancing academics, social expectations, technology, setbacks, expectations, and the everyday demands of growing up. While coaches focus on developing technical skills and parents provide encouragement and support, there is often an opportunity to further develop the mental and emotional skills that help athletes thrive.
Our mission is to help athletes build the mindset, resilience, confidence, and self-awareness needed to perform at their best and trust the process as they become the best version of themselves. We do this by combining evidence-based tools with a team of professionals who bring both high-level performance experience and the clinical expertise needed to support athletes effectively.
These experiences and beliefs align closely with the values of Tonka United. “More than just a place to play, Tonka United helps youth develop physically, mentally, and emotionally, guided by values like teamwork, perseverance, respect, and fun.”
Together, we recognize that sports provide an incredible opportunity to develop not only skilled athletes, but also strong teammates, leaders, and people of character.
By working together, we can provide athletes with a more complete support system—one that supports their growth, wellbeing, and development as whole people while helping them reach their potential both on and off the field.
More Than Soccer
Youth sports provide incredible opportunities for development of the whole person.
Every practice, game, and season teaches lessons that extend far beyond the pitch:
- Confidence
- Resilience
- Leadership
- Communication
- Emotional regulation
- Teamwork
- Life balance
- Time management
These skills help young people succeed not only in sports, but also in school, relationships, and life today and for the future.
For youth athletes, these lessons often show up in everyday moments: responding after a mistake, handling pressure before a game, supporting a teammate, managing disappointment, or learning how to keep working through setbacks.
That is why
mental wellbeing has become such an important conversation throughout the sports world.
Bringing a World-Class Approach to Our Community
As the soccer community celebrates the World Cup coming to North America, we are proud that our partnerships and supports align with the values being emphasized at the highest levels of the game.
The message is universal and clear: developing great athletes starts with developing healthy, confident, resilient people who have the right support, resources, and a culture and community that embraces them.
Our partnership between Peak Performance and Counseling Services and Tonka United is built on that same foundation.
Together, we are committed to supporting the whole athlete—not just their performance on the field, but their continued growth as people now and for the future.
Looking Ahead
The 2026 World Cup continues to showcase incredible talent, teamwork, and competition this Summer.
But perhaps the most important lesson we can take from the world’s game is the power of connection. When the right organizations partner together, communities become stronger. When adults work together, young people receive greater support.
And when we invest in the mental wellbeing of the next generation, everyone wins.
We are excited to begin this partnership and look forward to helping athletes and families thrive both on and off the field for years to come.
