FALL RECREATION LEAGUE

2025 RECREATION LEAGUE - FALL SEASON:

The Tonka United Fall Recreation League provides players, ages PreK - High School, the opportunity to develop life skills and physical skills in a game-based, less competitive atmosphere. The focus is on fun, participation, inclusion, and building community. Leagues are formed based on grade in school and gender. All teams are coached by Parent Volunteers.

NEW THIS YEAR:

  • All games on Saturdays at Freeman Park - Shorewood, MN
  • An additional 7th game, Sept. 6th through Oct. 18th
  • 20 minute pre-game skills training before games, coached by Parent Volunteers.
  • Supplemental 60 minute trainings for all ages with Tonka Juniors (3-7) and Total Technical (U8 to U15)
  • High School Intramural COED League offered (9th to 12th Grade)

High School Intramural: Looking for a way to stay active, have fun, and keep playing the game you love without the demands of High School soccer? Our High School COED League is the perfect opportunity for high school students to enjoy soccer in a casual, fun, and social environment. Whether you’re teaming up with friends or meeting new people, this league offers:

  • Play Weekly: Friends, no travel, no pressure, just fun.
  • Groups Stay Together: Registration is by individual, but we are happy to waive the one friend request policy to keep entire groups together
  • Individuals without a group will be added to rosters until full (Max 13), or create house teams.
  • Simple Uniform: No need to purchase a complete kit, we provide each player a team shirt, and ask all players wear blue shorts and socks.

Grab your friends, bring your energy, and come experience a soccer season that’s all about fun and camaraderie.

VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENT FOR REC PROGRAM

The Tonka United Recreation Program is a volunteer based program and has been for over 45 successful years. Over the past few years, as our league grows, it has become harder and harder to have enough volunteers to coach, assist with fields, and put on our Special Events. After many years of not requiring families to volunteer & surveying other community sports programs, Tonka United has decided to implement a volunteer requirement. A volunteer deposit will be collected at the time of registration. We have many volunteer opportunities across the season to choose from which will allow for a refund of your deposit once your family volunteer obligation is fulfilled. We understand families are busy so this is also seen as the ability to opt out of volunteer hours; the deposit is simply not refunded. Your volunteer time is not only needed, it is a way for you to connect with your child, their friends, and the community.

Team Formation

Players should register for their Fall 2025 grade in school. If your player's PlayMetrics account is showing an incorrect grade, please contact Rec Director, Sean Downey, to adjust your account, BEFORE REGISTERING.

During the registration process, you are given the chance to designate one friend with whom your child would like to play. During team formation, we will honor only one mutual friend request. HS teams are the exception, where we will honor groups form and register individually.

PreK to 8th Grade this means that the friend must request your child as well in order for that request to be honored. For example, Sarah requests to be placed on a team with Anne, and Anne requests to be placed on a team with Sarah.

Beyond the friend request, we will also try to place players on a team with at least some players from their school or neighborhood. However, registration numbers and the number of players from each school dictate final team formation.

Friend Request are not guaranteed and may not be honored after the registration deadline.

Parent Coaches

Volunteer parent coaches are vital to the success of our Recreation Program! You can register to volunteer at the same time you register your player for the season. No experience is required.
