MAT Assigning is Tonka United's referee assigning partner for all home matches in both Competitive and Recreation programs.

Are you interested in becoming a Referee at Tonka United?
If you are a:
- youth player wanting to grow your knowledge of the game (must be 13 years old + for Competitive & 11 years old + for Recreation/Pre-Competitive)
- soccer enthusiast with an interest to impact the game
- parent of a soccer player and want to support youth soccer in a new, active way
- collaborative, open-minded individual who is motivated to actively improve your skills
- natural leader wanting to apply your abilities to the great game
There are two paths:
- All Competitive/Travel matches require a state certification, obtained annually, leading up to the Spring/Summer season. You must be 13 years of age to become certified.
- All Recreational/Pre-Comp/In-house matches do NOT require a certification, however, if you are certified, you may also work these matches. This program is open to 11 and 12-year olds, as well as those that are older.
We encourage all that are 13 years of age or older to become certified.
We are always looking to add more referees to our Competitive, Pre-Competitive, & Recreation programs!

Adult Recreation League Ref
If you’re an adult who isn’t currently a certified referee but would like to support our Recreation Leagues, we’d love to have you. This is a local, fun, community-based, low-pressure way to start your referee journey.
Email rec@tonkaunited.org to learn more. Just like our Junior Refs, these are paid games, and we’ll provide training, shirt, and a whistle.
This is also a great first step before getting certified through MAT Assigning, which opens the door to refereeing competitive matches in TCSL and other local leagues and events.
