TONKA UNITED SOCCER ASSOCIATION
Club Communications | October 01, 2021
With only a few weeks left in the fall playing season, it seems like we only just got started. We have been extremely fortunate with the weather conditions and <<knock on wood>> the extended future forecast is looking favorable for the remainder of the season, although it could be a little wet tomorrow. We have been so fortunate to have the opportunities to get back out on the fields and allow our players to play. Despite some hiccups and road bumps that are continuous issues (uniform order delays, referee shortages, Covid-19, etc.) we persevere, play on, and do our best to support each other and this wonderful community! #playunited
COVID-19 PROTOCOL REMINDERS
A reminder that Covid-19 is still very active and we ask all our families to continue to be diligent about reporting positive Covid-19 cases in their players to Tonka United, as well as player close contact exposure to positive Covid-19 cases. All Covid-19 positive cases must be reported regardless of vaccination status. All Covid-19 exposures or positive cases need to be reported FIRST to Bobbi Hoebelheinrich at email@example.com. She will assist families in determining next steps and what quarantine situations apply to help keep teammates and coaches healthy and safe. You do not need to notify your coach, your manager or program administrator -BOBBI IS YOUR FIRST CONTACT PERSON AT TONKA UNITED FOR ALL THINGS COVID-19 RELATED!
General Safety Guidelines
- If your player is sick or feels sick, please have them STAY HOME.
- Parents are to ensure that their player is not ill or displaying symptoms prior to each practice or game. (Fever, cough, sore throat, fatigue, loss of taste or smell, upset stomach, red or swollen toes are current symptoms of COVID-19).
- Each player must have their own equipment, including ball, water, and hand sanitizer.
- Players must not share water bottles.
- Players wearing masks are at parent discretion.
- Players should limit contact with others by refraining from high-fives or handshakes (including with opponents or spectators). Sportsmanship can be demonstrated through team line ups with clapping and/or cheers.
Have you seen the reports about overall labor shortages? School bus drivers, employees in hospitality, etc.? Like many industries currently, soccer referees (at ALL levels of play) are in high demand, yet low supply. Please understand that we are diligently working to recruit qualified officials for our Tonka United home games - sometimes up until the last minute. In “normal times” it is difficult to retain refs, and in “these times” it’s even harder. Please, please, please be kind and gracious and forgiving and, most of all, respectful to your officials. Also, please understand that there may be scheduled games that do not/did not get an assigned ref and we must work together to accommodate to allow the kids to play. If you, or anyone you know, have an interest in refereeing, reach out to (Competitive Games) Mark Perry - firstname.lastname@example.org or (Recreation Games) Andy Moore - email@example.com.
NO PETS AT TONKA UNITED GAMES
A quick reminder that pets are not allowed on the sidelines at Tonka United games.
NEW UNIFORM KITS
We are super excited to announce our new partnership with Stefans Soccer for all of our future uniform and apparel needs. We begin this partnership with the new uniform kit that will be available for the Spring 2022 playing season and be used for the following two years, as is standard practice for most clubs.
Try-ons for sizing will begin the week of MEA at the Tonka United Office during our regular office hours (see below for new Fall hours) with additional try-on hours added on Friday, Oct 22 (10a-2p).
Uniform try-on at the office: Tuesday, Oct 19 - Friday, Oct 22; 10:00am - 2:00pm
We will have additional evening try-on options at MCA and the Tonka Dome during scheduled training sessions. These dates and times are TBD once indoor training schedules are announced in late October.
There continues to be a massive global supply chain back-up so please understand that orders will take longer to process than in years past. Once orders are available to be placed, please do not procrastinate. We will keep you updated on the process for uniform ordering, which will not begin until late October/early November.
Another reminder to please keep TeamSnap updated. Not only do the coaches and team managers need to know your player’s availability for all events (games, trainings, meetings, etc.), TS is also used as a reference for any potential Covid-19 issues. If you have any questions about TS, please reach out to your team manager or Mary Henderson, Competitive Coordinator - firstname.lastname@example.org
We had fourteen teams participate in the Iowa Rush Fall Cup Tournament last weekend and four teams moved on to the finals. The 2010 Girls Academy 2 team came home Champions! Well done, ladies!

Teammates on the field, rivals on the course. Aidan Smith and Graham Tyler (2008 Academy) battled it out on the cross country running course during the 8th grade meet between MMW and MME.
Graham and Aidan were neck and neck the entire race. Graham pulled just ahead of Aidan at the finish line which resulted in Graham finishing first for his school (MMW) and Aidan finishing 5th for his (MME). It is great to see the boys push and support each other to do their best, on and off the soccer field.
The Minnetonka High School Boys Varsity squad have a legit shot at the Lake Conference title this season - and are currently ranked #7 in the state. Cheer them on at their last two HOME GAMES (Minnetonka High School Upper Field North) of the season against big rivals: Edina and Wayzata.
