Little Juniors Spring/Summer

Overview

At Tonka United, our spring/summer Little Juniors program provides youth an opportunity to enjoy playing in an organized and fun-filled soccer league. The Little Juniors program is available for players in Pre-K - 2nd/3rd grade. Our 4 year-old player who are not yet in Pre-k can participate in Tonka Kickers.

We rely on parents as volunteer coaches to help create a positive experience for each team. If interested in volunteering, please register within the registration!

Season Schedule

The official schedule will be released at the beginning of April. Games will be played Monday-Thursday nights.

The season will start during the last week of April with Kickoff Week (expect for Tonka Kickers, which will mid-May)! Kickoff Week is an opportunity for players to meet teammates and coaches, and for Tonka United to help prepare coaches and teams for the upcoming season. The Kickoff Week session for each team will appear as the first game on their schedules. During the week, teams can use that time as a practice or to scrimmage with the other team on their field, or both.

Teams will play nine games, including the Kickoff Week session - one each week of the season. Teams will also typically practice once per week during the season. Volunteer coaches will work with their teams to organize a practice schedule.

The season ends with the Tonka Blast, a year-ending festival, on Saturday, June 29th. All teams will play scheduled games at the Tonka Blast, expect for those in high school. There will be a lot to do at the Blast, including concessions, food trucks, face painting, hair spray, bounce houses, and much more!

Cost

Tonka Kickers (4 year-olds not yet in Pre-K): $85*
Pre-K: $135**
Kindergarten: $110
1st and 2nd grader: $145

Note that this does not include the cost of uniforms.

*Fee includes a team color T-shirt.
**Since we will be switching to a different uniform set for 2020, the fee includes a full uniform set.

A $30 late fee applies after registration closes.

Uniforms

Uniforms are available through Nicklasson Athletic. The online store is currently closed, but will open again in early April.

The complete uniform set costs $44.95. Note that large and extra-large sizes are not available thought the online store. If you need one of these sizes please contact the Tonka United office, where we have the sizes available for purchase.

All players will need to order entirely new uniforms for the spring/summer 2020 season. The Tonka United recreational program typically uses a uniform set for three years. The last uniform set was first used for the spring/summer 2017 season. Players will be required to wear the new uniform set starting this spring.

The home team should always wear the blue uniform top, and the away team should always wear the red uniform top. The game schedule will indicate which team is home and which is away for each game. We recommend players alway bring both uniform tops to all games, just to be safe.

Team Formation

During the registration process, you are given the chance to designate one friend with whom your child would like to play. During team formation, we will honor only one mutual friend request. This means that the friend must request your child as well in order for that request to be honored. For example, Sarah requests to be placed on a team with Anne, and Anne requests to be placed on a team with Sarah.

Beyond the friend request, we will also try to place players on a team with at least some players from their school. However, registration numbers and the number of players from each school dictate final team formation.

League Format

Tonka Kickers (4 year-olds not yet in Pre-K):
Each week, a Tonka United trainer will lead the two teams on the field in roughly 15 minutes of skills games. Then the trainer will work with the team parent coaches to lead a 4 vs. 4 game. The game will consist of two 10 minute halves (running time). There are no goalkeepers. Note that Tonka Kickers teams do not have additional practices.

Ball Master (Pre-K and Kindergarten):
Each week, teams will play one 4 vs. 4 game. Games will consist of four 10 minute quarters. There are no referees - games are led and managed by parent coaches. There are no goalkeepers. Teams will also practice once per week.

Junior Development (1st and 2nd Grade):
Each week, teams will play one game - teams will play 5 vs. 5 (including goalkeepers). Referees will be present to manage the games.
