FAQs: Tonka United COVID-19 Response

COVID-19 Tonka United Response Frequently Asked Questions

As we continue to navigate the rapidly evolving COVID-19 situation, our first priority is the safety of our players and families and so we continue to follow the guidelines of the state and soccer governing bodies. In these unprecedented times it’s important we come together to support each other. At Tonka United we are getting creative and doing everything we can to deliver fun, engaging developmental activities and support to our players and families with no expectation that families need to participate given the amount of virtual coordination parents are having to do right now. We are also prioritizing continuing to pay our coaches and staff so that they can continue to provide the best soccer experience possible during this time.

We have created this FAQ page to deliver convenient and consistent answers to the questions we have received from parents. We will continue to update this page as we know more and decision are made.

1. Will there be outdoor team practices and games given COVID-19 stay at home orders?

TUSA will stay up to date and follow the guidance of the soccer governing body and the State of Minnesota

a. Little Jrs & Rec: If it is at all possible, we will run a summer season. Our rec program is intraclub which gives us more flexibility to adjust the timing of the season. Scenarios include starting as late as late July for a shortened season.

We will not run a season that is less than 4 weeks.

b. Competitive & Elite: Unlike our Little Jrs & Rec program, the Competitive Program is governed and insured by US Soccer and we must follow the directives of those organizations along with our state leagues. Each league has scenarios depending on decisions at the State of MN level and it is premature to speculate. We will not be able to make up the usual set of tournaments and so we will refund part of registration for the tournament portion on a team by team basis depending on what portion of their tournament funding each team has used.

2. Will I get a refund if we are not able to have outdoor team practices and games this summer due to COVID-19?

a. Little Jrs & Rec: If we cancel the season a full refund will be given.

b. Competitive & Elite: as a reminder, for competitive, we must follow the directives of US Soccer and the leagues we play in at the state level in terms of outdoor team practices and games. As stated in question 1, we will be refunding unused tournament fees that were included in player registrations. We are still working through other potential refund scenarios and we will update this answer when we’ve worked through the scenarios.

3. If I withdraw my child will that effect team placement for next year?

a. No. While we haven’t worked out all the details of team placement for next year we will build the approach with the principle that no player should be penalized who did not play this summer.

4. Did Tonka United receive a loan through the PPP program?

a. Yes, Tonka United moved quickly on the opportunity to secure a forgivable loan through the Paycheck Protection Program. This program gives small businesses and not-for-profits short term cash flow assistance to help cover operation expenses particularly with the purpose to continue paying employees. Continuing to pay our coaches and staff is a priority for our organization during this time.
