Statement Re: COVID-19

Date: March 12, 2020
To: All Tonka United, Tonka Fusion Elite Families, Coaches & Staff
Subject: 2020 Coronavirus Information and Update

Dear Families & Staff,

The health and safety of our players and families is our primary concern. In carefully considering the ongoing impact of COVID-19 and steps being taken by communities, governmental agencies and sports teams at all levels, Tonka United & Tonka Fusion Elite has made the decision to cancel the remainder of our winter programming, effective TODAY – Thursday, March 12, 2020

As you know, we only had two weeks of indoor winter training remaining before a one week shut-down for spring break. Our plan is to resume with outdoor training on April 6th but we will communicate a final decision as to the date of commencement of outdoor training by April 5, 2020. All other training and activities before that time will be cancelled. This also includes Winter Skills and our event at Unmapped Brewery. We will make up that event in the future.

We appreciate your patience with this situation. We do believe this decision is best for our players and their families and is consistent with health and safety guidelines being promulgated by state and federal health care professionals. Please note that this decision was not based upon any known positive COVID- 19 test or exposure or potential exposure to COVID-19 for any of our players or players’ families.

Thanks for your support, patience and understanding during this unprecedented situation.

This decision has been made in accordance with the guidance of public health and medical professionals as well as the ongoing acceleration of the coronavirus. As the number of State emergencies increases, we have decided to exercise caution in the interest of our soccer family. The safety and security of our soccer community is, and always will be, our highest priority!

We are aware that some of our teams have travel plans in April and are monitoring those events and the states they are taking place in. USYS has postponed some Leagues and we will inform you of the impact those may have on each team directly. If there is a change in our State Leagues schedule, we will also let you know.

We will communicate via email, our website and social media any updates.

In addition to our organizational efforts, Tonka United encourages our soccer community to take all reasonable measures to mitigate the risk of COVID-19 in their daily lives. Coronavirus and influenza are spread by exposure to droplets via coughing and by contact with surfaces touched by an infected person. Touching an infected surface and then touching your face, eyes, mouth or nose is a preventable route of transmission.

The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) is a valuable resource of the latest information.

Please monitor this CDC web page, which has important information about how coronavirus spreads, its symptoms, FAQs, global locations with COVID-19, travel advisories and more.
