Tonka Winter Academy

Speed and athleticism are extremely important in today’s game. Soccer specific conditioning drills are designed to develop young players speed, agility, and timing over both short and long distances. Agility and co-ordination are two of the many attributes required to become a successful soccer player. Complex movements such as dribbling, turning, passing and intercepting often necessitate quick and large changes in speed and direction and correctly executing skills requires good body co-ordination.

In most cases, the game of soccer is ultimately won or lost by a goal scored from a high intensity build up (a sprint). However, enhancing a players capacity to sprint quicker over a certain distance does not happen by chance. Players will complete various speed training exercises and have the opportunity to record their results over the 6 week program to see where improvements have been or can be made.

The last 40 minutes of each session will focus on a player’s ability to score goals!!! Without a doubt goal scoring is the most exciting part of the game and all players love shooting. Players will be taught correct technique(s) as well as an attitude towards shooting within small sided games.
