Adam Van't Hof Scholarship
The family of Adam Van't Hof, through the Tonka United Soccer Association Board of Directors, has authorized a $1,000 annual college scholarship to be used toward education expenses. This award has been established as a memorial to Adam Van't Hof, a long time Tonka United player and referee. As a soccer player, Adam had a will to succeed, understood his role and played his position well. He was the ultimate team player, so it's appropriate to have this award named in Adam's honor. This scholarship is given in recognition of a graduating male or female high school player who demonstrates commitment, excellence, and leadership in the Tonka United soccer program.
This year’s recipient of the Adam Van’t Hof Scholarship is Charles Earl-Hansen, a 2009 graduate of Minnetonka High School. Charles was a 3-year starter at Minnetonka and co-captain of his senior varsity team. He earned All-conference and All-state honors in his senior year. Charles also led the Minnetonka Lacrosse team to a state championship in 2008, while never missing a soccer practice or game.
In Tonka United, Charles played on the U18 C1 team that won the state championship. He was the leading scorer and inspirational leader of that same team that won a total of four state champions. According to his coach, Charles outworked and out hustled everyone on the field, always giving credit to his teammates for their success.
Charles was active outside his playing teams as well. He worked as a soccer referee for 2 years, and helped coach younger teams in Dome practices and at the Tonka Blast. Academically, Charles achieved a 3.4 GPA at Minnetonka High and now attends the Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston where he is studying Architecture.
Charles’ determination, leadership, commitment, and remarkable work ethic make him an excellent recipient of the award. The Van’t Hof family and Tonka United are pleased to award the ninth annual Adam Van’t Hof Scholarship to Charles Earl-Hansen.
Candidates may be self-nominated or nominated by a player, coach, referee, or other adult. The deadline for receipt of nominations is August 15, 2010. The award decision will be announced by August 31 of each year.
