coaches corner: lesson plans
TONKA UNITED'S CORE DEVELOPMENT TRAINING PROGRAM (CDT)We have designed & produced a curriculum for soccer consisting of 8 session plans for each age group from U8-U17 that cover all technical and tactical components. Coaches are expected to use the document as a resource and guide to ensure that we deliver sessions that are consistent with the clubs coaching philosophy. A progressive and developmental curriculum approach to teaching the key components of the game to all of our players that are age and developmentally appropriate. Coaches should adopt a progressive structure to their sessions that develops a practice from small to complex. Use the following as a guide as to how to structure your coaching sessions.
DESIGNING & DEVELOPING A PRACTICE
The technical and tactical objectives are designed specifically to be delivered over a series of 10-12 practice sessions but can be adapted for seasons of differing lengths & players of differing abilities. It is important that each objective is delivered individually, so that each player can focus on that area. As players develop cognitively they will be able to be placed under increased pressure during training.
There are learning objectives & outcomes for each session and assumes player success at the previous level. The 8 session plans allow coaches to repeat sessions if necessary over the course of a 10 week season, plus allowing coaches the freedom they need to add their own input into the program based upon the needs of the team & players. Teams practice more than once a week so the opportunity for development and skill acquisition is greatly increased.
